Lyrics
Verse 1:
I can remember the day, when I chose Your way
I tasted Your grace, and it was good
Love filled my heart and I felt alive
Somewhere along life’s dark road, troubles crept in,
My heart has grown cold in me again
I’m reaching to You, Lord will You move
Pre-Chorus:
Re – ignite the flame
A burning for Your name
Chorus:
I’m falling in love with You once again
I remember the cross, and the life that You gave
Lord take me back, to that time I first laid
My eyes upon You, and my heart was ablaze
My heart was ablaze
Verse 2:
I thirst so deeply for you, I want to draw close,
I’m longing to meet You God again
I know You’re near, I’m seeking Your face
You speak to my troubled soul, “Take courage my friend
Remember the times close by my side”
Let joy rise again, in passionate praise!
Pre-Chorus
Chorus
Bridge 1:
Take me back, and take me further
Lord make something new in me
I need Your touch, I need You now
Light Your fire in me
Bridge 2:
I’m fal – ling
I’m fal – ling… Falling in love
As You’re draw – ing… me closer and closer
My heart will sing… forever and ever
Chorus
Behind the song
This song started out from a chorus idea I had been working on when I attended a songwriting day in November 2022. I had the privilege of meeting with Maria Segerholm and Deborah Bate, and together we began working on building out verses and melody ideas for the song. We made a good start on the song on that songwriting day, and in the months that followed we met up again online to finish it.
I was such an honour to work on writing this song with Maria and Debs who are such gifted and amazing songwriters and artists of themselves. An added blessing was that Maria and Debs were able to add their vocals also on the final mix so that this song really feels like a true collaboration.
My prayer that this song will be a blessing to individuals and church congregations alike. I think many people can identify with that feeling of that ‘first love’ they had when they first came to know Jesus as their Saviour, and how they couldn’t help but tell everyone they know about Him. Our hope is that this song rekindles your first love for Him and draws you into a place of closer relationship with Jesus.
